The Oriental Ceramic Society of Hong Kong is delighted to announce a preview of Christie’s Hong Kong Spring Auctions of Important Chinese Ceramics and Works of Art with Rosemary Scott and Pola Antebi who will guide members through this season’s sale highlights.
Among the most anticipated works is the Taber Family doucai and famille-rose Anbaxian vase, Tianqiuping or ‘Celestial Sphere vase’ from the Philbrook Museum of Art. Commissioned by the Qianlong Emperor (1711-1799) the vase is unique for its decorative symbolism. Other highlights include a 7th century Buddha from the Muneichi Nitta collection and a polychrome wood figure of water moon Guanyin dated to the Liao-Jin Dynasty (907-1234). The history and background of these works will be discussed alongside other highlights.
Rosemary Scott is International Academic Director of Christie’s Asian Art Departments, and a former Curator of the Percival David Foundation in London, and the Burrell Collection in Glasgow. She is also a past President of the London Oriental Ceramic Society.
Pola Antebi joined Christie’s Hong Kong in 1990 and is the International Director of the Chinese Works of Art Department in Hong Kong. Her areas of expertise include Imperial ceramics, jades and works of art from the Yuan to the Qing periods. She is currently a member of the Hong Kong Management Committee.
Members are reminded that as the preview takes place before the public are admitted, this event is strictly limited to current members only. A limited number of places are available, and pre-registration is required. Drop-ins will not be entertained.
