Affiliated Societies

The Society has reciprocal arrangements with the Oriental Ceramic Societies of London and the Philippines; the Southeast Asian Ceramic Society, Singapore and the Siam Society, Thailand, enabling members to attend their meetings.

The Oriental Ceramic Society, London
Founded in 1921 to promote scholarship and interest in Asian art, it took a leading role in the organization of the historic International Exhibition of Chinese Art, held in 1935-6 at the Royal Academy of Arts. In the intervening years it has attracted members from around the world. The Society hosts regular lectures given by international scholars and publishes these in its annual Transactions of the Oriental Ceramic Society.

The Oriental Ceramic Society of the Philippines (OCSP)
Established in 1980, the founding of the OCSP was inspired by the huge quantities of ceramics found in and around the various islands of the Philippines in the 1960’s and 1970’s, and the curiosity to learn more about them.

Siam Society
The Siam Society Under Royal Patronage was established in 1904 with a mission to promote knowledge of the culture, history, arts and natural sciences of Thailand as well as those of neighboring countries. Its motto is “Knowledge gives rise to Friendship”.

Southeast Asian Ceramic Society
Formed in 1969, the Southeast Asian Ceramic Society’s purpose is to widen appreciation and acquire knowledge of the ceramic art of China and countries adjacent to China, especially those of Southeast Asia. The Society organised their landmark inaugural exhibition at the University Art Museum, Singapore in 1971, with 350 examples of Khmer, Annamese and early Thai pottery.
