Dates: 8-13 May 2025
The OCS is excited to announce an exclusive study tour to Jingdezhen, China’s historic centre of porcelain production, and the Haihunhou Han Dynasty Tomb site.
Our expert guide in Jingdezhen will be Dr May Huang, whose lecture on the history of Yuan dynasty blue-and-white ceramics was met with great enthusiasm by members. As an archaeologist, she will bring us to important archaeological and historic sites, including the new Imperial Kiln Museum and Jinkeng Village, with its Song Dynasty kiln sites and the Dongjiao Institute for Ceramic Studies. Based in Jingdezhen, she is also familiar with the new ceramic artists, workshops and markets.
The second part of our trip will be based around the capital city of Jiangxi, Nanchang, with a focus on the Han Dynasty tomb site of Haihunhou, where we will visit the museum and the surrounding heritage park. We will also visit the Jiangxi Provincial Museum and the Gao’An Museum of Yuan dynasty blue-and-white ceramics.
Dr May Huang (Huang Wei) holds a doctorate from the Academy of Fine Arts of Tsinghua University and an MA from the School of Archaeology and Museology of Peking University. She is also co-founder of the Dongjiao Institute for ceramic studies and has published numerous articles in Wenwu and other publications. She has extensive field experience in archaeological excavations.
