The Oriental Ceramic Society is delighted to announce an exclusive guided viewing of the special exhibition ‘Engaging Past Wisdom: Min Chiu Society at Sixty-five’ at the Hong Kong Museum of Art, with curator Ms Hilda Mak.

The forms and decorations of ancient artefacts reflect our ancestors’ reverence for nature and their quest for cosmic harmony and also bear witness to cultural exchange. In their silhouettes, we discern the essence of the universe; in their patterns, the laws of creation. Each vessel is a cipher to antiquity’s intellectual world, and only by retracing this path can we decipher the past to illuminate the present.

Since its establishment in 1960, members of the Min Chiu Society have long upheld the aspiration to ‘revere antiquity while diligently seeking knowledge’. Admired for a culture that transcends mere collecting, members embrace a scholarly approach of meticulous study that has gained members and their collections international recognition. In celebration of the Min Chiu Society’s 65th anniversary, this visually stunning exhibition features over 400 sets of works including Chinese painting and calligraphy, ceramics, bronzes, lacquerware, jades, bamboo carvings, furniture and snuff bottles. This exhibition is an invitation to encounter the intellectual world of the past through some exquisite collections for the enjoyment, appreciation and enlightenment of all.

Ms Hilda Mak is the Curator of Chinese Antiquities at the Hong Kong Museum of Art (HKMoA). In addition to ‘Engaging Past Wisdom: Min Chiu Society at Sixty-five’, her recent curatorial credits include ‘Life Planning of the Chinese Literati: Selected Chinese Painting and Calligraphy from the Xubaizhai Collection’, ‘# popcolours: The Aesthetics Hues in Antiquities from the HKMoA Collection’, ‘Eternal Enlightenment: the Virtual World of Jiajing Emperor’, and ‘Honouring Tradition and Heritage: Min Chiu Society at Sixty’.

Please note that pre-registration is required to enter the museum as this is a guided viewing specially arranged for OCS members on an off-day of the museum. Drop-ins will not be entertained.

*Please note that guided tour reservation will be closed on 24 November 2025 day-end.
