The Oriental Ceramic Society of Hong Kong is delighted to announce a guided viewing of Yuan Blue and White: New Discoveries from Jingdezhen at The CUHK Art Museum with Dr. Wang Guanyu.

Jointly organized by the Art Museum of the Chinese University of Hong Kong and the Jingdezhen Imperial Kiln Institute, this exhibition focuses on Yuan blue-and-white porcelain and highlights the archaeological discoveries from Jingdezhen over the years, including the most recently unearthed ceramic specimens from 2023 and 2024, supplemented by collections from the Art Museum and the Hong Kong Museum of Art.

The exhibition aims to explore the rich artistic and cultural exchanges across Eurasia and the maritime routes during the Mongol-Yuan period, helping the audience to understand the flourishing development of Yuan dynasty handicraft industries and the background behind the emergence of Yuan blue-and-white porcelain. Using this type of globally influential Chinese porcelain as an entry point, the exhibition showcases one aspect of ancient China’s cultural exchange with world civilisations and China’s unique contribution to world history and culture through its ceramics.

Dr. Wang Guanyu is the Objects Curator of the Art Museum, The Chinese University of Hong Kong. She focuses on the research of the production, trade and consumption of Chinese porcelain during the Ming and Qing dynasties, and the interactions of material civilisation between East and West in early globalisation. Dr. Wang has participated in several archaeological projects in mainland China, two of which were awarded as “China’s Top 10 New Archaeological Discoveries” (2006 and 2009). She has curated several exhibitions on ceramics, including “Refilling the Interregnum: Newly Discovered Imperial Porcelains from the Zhengtong, Jingtai and Tianshun Reigns (1436-1464) of the Ming Dynasty” (2018), “Enchanting Expeditions: Chinese Trade Porcelains across the Globe” (2021), and “Yuan Blue and White: New Discoveries from Jingdezhen” (2025). She is now co-investigating a GRF project “The Ming Court and the World Beyond: Production, Circulation and Consumption of Dragon Porcelain from the 15th to the Early 17th Centuries”.
