The OCS is delighted to announce an exclusive handling session with collector Matthew Hoyle and ceramic scholar Dr May Huang. The second in a series designed to give members unique opportunities to learn about ceramics through hands-on experiences, this session focuses on Blue-and-White porcelain from the Transitional period (1620-1683) to the Kangxi Period (r.1662-1722). Members will learn about the unique characteristics of these wares many responding to new markets and new freedoms outside of mandated production including the evolution of decorative motifs and ceramic forms that chart the transition from a late-Ming aesthetic to the imperial style of the Kangxi reign.
Mr Matthew Hoyle is an active collector and is a moderator on Gothenburg.com, the world’s largest private discussion board for Chinese ceramics. Pieces from his collection are on loan to museums both in Hong Kong and internationally.
Dr May Huang (Huang Wei) holds a doctorate from the Academy of Fine Arts of Tsinghua University and an MA from the School of Archaeology and Museology of Peking University. She is also co-founder of the Dongjiao Institute for ceramic studies and has published numerous articles in Wenwu and other publications. She has extensive field experience in archaeological excavations.
Members are reminded that this event is strictly limited to current members only and that pre-registration is required. We regret that drop-ins will not be entertained.
