The OCS has organised an exclusive members-only viewing of Chinese textiles from the renowned collection of Christopher Hall, the past President of the now-defunct Textile Society, and a former President of the OCS of Hong Kong. At this viewing Chris will share some highlights of his collection, which has been amassed over a period of thirty years. The collection includes examples of textiles and textile art from varying periods, styles, and artistic interests. In 1995, Chris organised the first major exhibition of Chinese textiles at the Hong Kong Museum of Art, “Heavens’ Embroidered Cloths: One Thousand Years of Chinese Textiles” supported by the OCS. He frequently lectures on Chinese textiles, and in 2017 was a speaker at the ICC-Palace Museum Hong Kong Symposium. Known internationally, works from Christopher Hall’s collection have been exhibited in the United States, United Kingdom, Australia and Korea. Currently part of his collection is on long-term loan to China’s National Silk Museum in Hangzhou and the Asian Civilisations Museum in Singapore.
