The Oriental Ceramic Society of Hong Kong is delighted to announce a private preview of Christie’s Spring sale of Chinese Ceramics and Works of Art with Pola Antebi.
Amongst the highlights of the auction, Ravishing Blue: Imperial Porcelains from an Important Private Collection, will be a rare large blue-and-white tianqiuping ‘dragon’ vase, of the Yongzheng period (1723-1735), depicting nine dragons chasing flaming pearls amidst clouds, and a Yongle period (1402-1422) blue-and-white ‘bamboo, rock and plantain’ meiping vase, showcasing the exceptional skill of the early Yongle imperial kilns, and displaying the characteristic ‘Sumali’ speckles and subtle tonal variations of the cobalt blue pigment. Also on view is a pair of Yongzheng period famille rose ‘prunus and lingzhi’ tea bowls imbued with auspicious symbolism and vibrant enamels, epitomising the Yongzheng Emperor’s pursuit of aesthetic perfection. Another highlight is a rare gilt-bronze figure of Vairocana from the Liao dynasty (916-1125) that exemplifies the artistry and craftsmanship of its time.
Pola Antebi is Deputy Chairman and International Director of Chinese Ceramics and Works of Art at Christie’s Hong Kong. Her areas of expertise include imperial ceramics, jades and works of art from the Yuan to the Qing dynasties.
Members are reminded that as the preview takes place before the public are admitted, this event is strictly limited to current members only. A limited number of places are available and pre-registration is required. Drop-ins will not be entertained. Members are further reminded that photography is not ordinarily permitted.
