The Oriental Ceramic Society of Hong Kong and The Hong Kong Club are pleased to present a lecture by Patrick Conner covering the artwork of George Chinnery.
The lecture will present a rare opportunity to take a close look at The Hong Kong Club’s fine collection of works by George Chinnery (1774-1852) – drawings, watercolours and oil paintings by the great expatriate artist, who came to the China coast to escape from his Calcutta creditors, but remained for 27 years producing much of his best work. Attendees will be introduced to his technique, motifs, tricks and foibles, his ideas of composition, his deceptively simple mastery of pure watercolour, and his characteristic shorthand – and to contrast these with the work of some of his followers, also represented in The Hong Kong Club bar.
