The Oriental Ceramic Society of Hong Kong is delighted to welcome Stefano Mariani of Deacons to present a practical, jargon-free talk drawing upon his extensive experience advising and resolving disputes in the fields of Hong Kong tax and trusts law with a focus on heritage and art collections.
Private collections present opportunities for functional and tax efficiency in estate and asset planning. In this lecture, Stefano will discuss the structures and solutions available in Hong Kong to antiques aficionados, including setting up and managing private and charitable trusts, and tax planning in relation to the use of heritage assets including loans, exhibitions, donations, and the formation of private museums.
Stefano Mariani heads the tax and trusts practice at Deacons, Hong Kong’s oldest and largest law firm and the first to establish a dedicated art law practice. He has a broad range of experience, advising on all areas of Hong Kong and international trusts, estate planning, and charities, including the drafting of trusts instruments, restructuring of trusts structures, and trusts dispute resolution. Stefano is a solicitor advocate with higher rights of audience in civil proceedings before the High Court and Court of Final Appeal. He is an Adjunct Associate Professor of the Faculty of Law at the University of Hong Kong and a regular contributor to legal and industry publications.
This lecture will be presented as a free online event, using Microsoft Teams. No registration is required. If you are joining a Microsoft Teams online lecture for the first time, we advise you read this step-by-step guide: [Online lecture guide]
