Ceramics archaeologist, scholar, teacher, perservation activist, and now also farmer and wine distiller, May Huang, led OCS members on a unique tour of Jingdezhen. Her knowledge and insights were on evidence at all the ancient kiln sites, and her special relationships offered us a chance to see areas roped off from tourists. The highlight of the trip was the visit to Jinkeng Village, where Ms. Huang founded the Dongjiao Institute for the study of ceramics, and where she has successfully stopped development from destroying Song Dynasty kiln sites.
