The OCS is pleased to announce that the AGM will be held on November 18th at The Hong Kong Club. We are delighted to welcome Maria Mok, Museum Director of the Hong Kong Museum of Art, as our AGM speaker. rnrnEstablished in 1962, the Hong Kong Museum of Art is the first public art museum in Hong Kong. Today, the Museum faces a very different cultural ecology. To update its role for contemporary times, the museum building has undergone a major renovation and expansion while the Museum re-positions itself in the region, and the world. Scheduled to re-open in late November 2019, this presentation will offer a preview of the museum’s transformation and its plans for re-opening.rnrnDr. Maria Mok joined the Hong Kong Museum of Art in 1996, and is currently its Museum Director. She has extensive experience in museum work, heading different departments, including China Trade Paintings, Chinese Antiquities, Modern and Hong Kong Art, Education and Extension Services, and has curated and led a vast number of exhibitions and programmes. Dr. Mok is a specialist in China trade paintings with a research focus on their dating and authentication. She has published extensively with a particular interest in the artistic interactions on global trade, and co-authored with Paul A. Van Dyke Images of the Canton Factories 1760-1822: Reading History in Art (HKU Press: 2015).
