The OCS is thrilled to announce a small-group study tour focusing on the celadon ceramics of Zhejiang with Ms Lai Suk Yee, former Assistant Curator, and Researcher at the Art Museum, The Chinese University of Hong Kong, whose research centres on Yixing stoneware of the Ming and Qing dynasties, and Zhejiang celadon of the Tang and Song dynasties. Celadons count among the most important and influential wares in China’s long ceramic history due to their status as coveted export and tribute wares.
This compact study tour offers an in-depth, and hands-on approach to learning about Yue wares of the Tang to Northern Song periods, and Longquan wares from the Song to Yuan periods. Beginning in Hangzhou, Zhejiang’s picturesque capital, and concluding in Ningbo, we will benefit from the expert guidance of Ms Lai throughout., we will benefit from the expert guidance of Ms Lai throughout. The tour will include visits to museum collections, and other sites of interest, with opportunities to handle celadon shards at kiln sites in the Shanglinhu area, as well as excavated celadons at the Zhejiang Provincial Cultural Relics and Archaeological Research Institute.
