We are excited to announce an upcoming trip to Taiwan following the K.S. Lo Memorial Lecture by Dr. Tsai Ching-Liang on “Jades in the Palace of Heavenly Purity.” This trip is being organised to view the exhibition of this exquisite imperial collection.

Highlights of the trip include the following:

  • Visit to the Southern Branch of the National Palace Museum in Chiayi, Taiwan, for a guided tour of the exhibition “Treasures in the Palace of Heavenly Purity – Rediscovering Jades from the Inner Court of the Forbidden City” by Dr Tsai, the curator. This is a unique opportunity to see these important imperial jades that were housed in the Qianqing Palace, and to learn what they meant to the Emperor Qianlong himself.
  • Tour of the Academia Sinica’s Museum of the Institute of History and Philology in Taipei, to view the impressive collection of Shang to Zhou Dynasty artefacts from their archaeological excavations in Anyang in the 1930s.
  • Tour of the National Palace Museum in Taipei, to view the interesting exhibition of “Sacrifice and Warfare: Guide to Ancient Weapons” that explores the development of ancient weaponry from late Neolithic period to Qin and Han dynasty, with a special focus on bronze weapons.

Dates:  6 to 8 September 2024
Cost:  The fee for this trip is estimated to be $7,500 and a deposit of $3,750 is required by 10 August. The package will include round-trip flights, hotel accommodations, ground transportation and museum admissions. (Meals will be on a cost-shared basis.)
